This book portrays an Indian tribe living in a land suffering from a drought. One of the tribe’s youngest children, She-Who-Is-Alone, sacrifices her most cherished possession so the spirits will forgive the tribe for their selfishness. After her sacrifice there are bluebonnets growing on the hill and rain begins to fall. All of her people honored her for her sacrificial act and this is how the Texas bluebonnet came to be.
